MAIN PREDICTION: AWAY WIN
Newly-promoted CS Alagoano were thrashed 4-0 away at Atletico Mineiro in the league last weekend. The currently second-placed team gave them no chance to fight back and scored two goals in each half. CS Alagoano had 27 chances created against them and worked with only 29% of ball possession. It was a very disappointing performance for them and the hosts deserved the credit as they excelled in every aspect. CS Alagoano have now slipped into 17th place with a dire six points after this defeat, having failed to win six out of their seven league fixtures in the top flight (three draws, three losses).
Botafogo have been playing brilliantly under new manager Eduardo Barroca. They are coming off a 1-0 home league win over rock-bottom Vasco da Gama in an intense local derby where they played fluid and aggressive football. They controlled the league game’s pace and scored a truly beautiful goal through attacker Diego Souza. The victory - their fourth in the league this season - has seen them jump into seventh place with 12 points, but they have lost their other three league matches.
CS Alagoano just don’t look like a first division team and they are struggling in every way against all kinds of opponents. They have only managed to beat fellow newcomers Goias at home this season. Botafogo may have lost two of their last three league matches, but one of those defeats was against leaders Palmeiras and both ended in a 1-0 scoreline. I am confident the away team will win here.
SECOND PREDICTION: HILO – LOW
There have only been three total goals on the scoresheets of CS Alagoano’s three home league games combined while Botafogo’s last five league fixtures have all seen exactly one total goal each. Another low-scoring league match seems likely.
HEAD TO HEAD
These two have never faced each other in the top flight.
