Flamengo had already signed right back Rafinha, who was with FC Bayern, before the Brasileiro stopped during last month but now he will play for the first time in the local league after his return.Goias were expecting to count with striker Walter, who was banned and was supposed to return this weekend, but last week the sports court extended his ban for another year.

This is the first chance for coach Jorge Jesus to show in the league how he’s changed the team after having 20 days to train the squad and get them used to his ideas and tactical formations and even before he made his debut Flamengo already showed some improvement – at least in their defense – keeping a clean sheet in their three league matches after coach Abel Braga left the club and interim Marcelo Salles was in charge but now their fans expect to see more especially in the league.

Even though they are much bigger than Goias it won’t be an easy match, as the visitors have been playing well so far this season and not only are placed inside the top 6 but are also only two points behind Flamengo with still one postponed match to be played. They haven’t been that strong when playing away, though, with losses in the last two of their three league games as visitors in the league so far.

That’s not to mention the fact that they conceded in the last three league games they had in the Brasileiro and as Flamengo have one of the best attacks in the country, Goias should have a lot of trouble to keep the hosts from scoring, which is why I think Flamengo will win this one.

As I said before, Flamengo’s defensive numbers have improved considerably even before coach Jorge Jesus joined the club and having in mind that he’s terribly strict we can expect them to be even more focused, so they should continue getting better while defending and leave this game with another clean sheet. That also happened in their last two league wins and both ended 2-0, which is likely to happen again this time.

It’s been four years since the last time these two clashed and in 2015 Flamengo won both their matches against Goias.
