Suspended: Diego Polenta
Injured/unavailable: Romain Alessandrini (knee surgery), Chris Pontius (hamstring), Sebastian Lletget (pelvis)
San Jose Earthquakes
Injured/unavailable: Anibal Godoy (abdomen)
MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN
Who else but Zlatan Ibrahimovic would break the LA Galaxy's 240-minute goalless streak in the league? Ibrahimovic netted goals in the 75th and 89th minutes to propel his team to a 2-0 home league triumph over Toronto FC last week and now has 13 goals on the season. The win snapped a three-game losing streak at home in the league and was their fourth victory in the past ten league outings while losing the other six. David Bingham was also solid in goal for the Galaxy with five saves and earned the clean sheet. The Galaxy now has 34 points and remain in second place in the West.
The San Jose Earthquakes posted their third straight league shutout at home as they blanked visiting Real Salt Lake 1-0 last weekend. Substitute and man of the match Danny Hoesen was the hero with his goal three minutes into second-half injury time. Goalkeeper Mario Vega made five saves to preserve the clean sheet. It was the perfect way to bounce back from their 3-1 away league loss to Minnesota Utd a few days earlier which snapped San Jose's league unbeaten streak at four wins and two draws. The Earthquakes have dropped all three points just twice in their past 13 league outings (seven wins and four draws) and have 28 of 57 points on the year.
The LA Galaxy were embarrassed 3-0 in San Jose in the league two weeks ago and will certainly be out to avenge that defeat. I expect them to do just enough to take all three points at home.
SECOND PREDICTION: HILO – HIGH
These teams go at each other in this local derby with just one of their last six league meetings seeing fewer than three total goals, and 3.67 total goals on average. I'm counting on at least three total goals in this league clash.
HEAD TO HEAD
The San Jose Earthquakes were 3-0 home winners in the league in late June. Each team has three wins, three draws and three losses in the last nine league meetings.
