Piast Gliwice: Good performance in the first-leg (Recent Form: LDWDDW)
Piast drew against BATE (1:1) on the road in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League qualification tie in first round. The Polish champions put a fine display, especially in the first half. Piast host BATE on Wednesday in the second-leg. “I expect a tough match. Maybe even harder than a week ago. We've definitely irritated BATE players. The game in Belarus showed what both teams can do. The situation is even and I estimate chances 50/50. BATE can be favorites because they have experience in European competitions. There were already such situations that they drew the first game and then they won the second-leg. I think that we will play wisely enough to be in the next phase of qualification,” said coach Waldemar Fornalik.
BATE: In good shape (Recent Form: WDWWWD)
BATE appear to be in good form lately – 4 wins, 1 draw, 0 defeats in last 5 games in all competitions. Now it’s time for an away cup encounter. “It is difficult to indicate the favorite. Piast scored the away goal, but we are more experienced. They were not a surprie for us because we watched league matches of Piast and friendlies during preparations. The only thing I can say is that the level of our game was not what I expected. It's hard to make any predictions. Usually, there are many more goals in the second-legs. Anything can happen and the picture of the game may be completely different from the one we saw in the first match,” said coach Alexei Baga.
THE BETTING VERDICT:
To sum up, it seems that this might be a low-scoring clash. Piast are disciplined at the back, similarly to BATE who use long balls so perhaps there won’t be much action in this fixture.
