Injured/unavailable: Fabian Herbers (shoulder)
MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN
The Portland Timbers bounced back from a 1-0 loss in Minnesota a week earlier with a 3-1 conquest over Vancouver last weekend. Sebastian Blanco gave the home side the lead after 28 minutes but Vancouver levelled before half time. Marvin Loria put Portland ahead in the 55th minute and Jeremy Ebobisse added some insurance in the 90th. Portland has lost just one of the last eight league games with five wins and two draws. They move to 34 points but are still out of the playoffs as they trail seventh-place Dallas by two points but with two games in hand on them.
The Chicago Fire won their second straight league game as they edged Montreal 3-2 at home last weekend and are now unbeaten in their past three. Dax McCarty and Nemanja Nikolic scored in the first 19 minutes for Chicago but Montreal leveled the match by the 76th minute. Man of the match Bastian Schweinsteiger notched the winner in the 88th minute with his first goal of the campaign. It was just the third win in the past 14 league games for Chicago with five draws and six losses. They climb to 30 points and are in a ninth-place tie with Orlando in the East, three points behind seventh-place Toronto FC and the playoffs.
Portland are just a win away from a playoff spot. With Chicago having one away win with three draws and eight losses I believe Portland will emerge victorious.
SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE – PORTLAND TIMBERS
Chicago has scored just nine goals in 12 away league matches and Portland has scored first in five of their seven home games. Look for Portland to strike first.
HEAD TO HEAD
Five of the last six league meetings have ended in draws with Portland winning the other game at home.
