Match Time: 7/15/2019 03:55 Monday (GMT+8)
The Seattle Sounders are listing Will Bruin as being injured for the rest of the season and announced the signing of forward Justin Dhillon of USL club the Tacoma Defiance as his replacement.
Atlanta Utd expect to be without Florentin Pogba, George Bello, Ezequiel Barco, Kevin Kratz and Hector Villalba with injuries. The club also signed midfielder Emerson Hyndman on loan from Bournemouth of the English top flight.
Injured/unavailable: Will Bruin (knee)
Injured/unavailable: George Bello (groin), Kevin Kratz (calf), Ezequiel Barco (knee), Hector Villalba (leg), Florentin Pogba (hamstring)
MAIN PREDICTION: DRAW
The Seattle Sounders rebounded from their 3-0 midweek league loss away to New York City with a 2-1 league victory in Columbus on the weekend. The Crew pulled ahead on a 13th-minute penalty kick, but Nicolas Lodeiro equalized on his own spot kick after 56 minutes and then the man of the match scored the winner just seconds before the final whistle blew. The win is just the second in the last seven league games for the Sounders to go with four losses and a draw. Sitting in third, they are in decent playoff position in the West though with 32 of 57 league points this year from nine wins, five draws and five defeats.
Atlanta Utd had to settle for an exciting 3-3 home league draw against the New York Red Bulls last weekend and are winless in the last two league games with a loss and draw. They have been outscored 8-4 in those league matches as they were trounced 5-1 in midweek away against the Chicago Fire. Atlanta took the lead against the Red Bulls through Justin Meram after ten minutes only to see their rivals score in the 37th and 60th minutes. Atlanta's Josef Martinez then took over by converting a penalty kick in the 79th minute and heading in the go-ahead marker a minute into injury time. Martinez and his teammates celebrated too early though as the Red Bulls came down the pitch from the ensuing kickoff and leveled the score. Atlanta have 30 out of 57 league points on the season but even though they are in third place in the East, they still need a few more league wins to wrap up a playoff spot.
These teams like to play defensive chess matches when they meet and I can see them playing to a third straight league draw with each other.
SECOND PREDICTION: HILO – LOW
These are two of the best defensive sides in the league with the Seattle Sounders conceding only 25 and Atlanta Utd 23 goals so far. They have also combined for just two total goals in their only two league encounters. I expect that trend to continue with fewer than three total goals scored in this league match.
HEAD TO HEAD
The teams have met just twice in league action before. They drew 1-1 in Atlanta last season and 0-0 in Seattle in 2017.
